It’s Monday and I’m thinking about time management. Actually, I’m always thinking about time management.
As someone who has freelanced off and on for many years, I have adequate self-discipline. But, I have to admit, social media and my social media habits concern me. I may need a bit more self-discipline.
Don’t get me wrong: I’m glad I’m on Twitter (since February). I have two Twitter accounts and will likely start a third. Why? Targeting. I have two distinct audiences.
I’m also glad I’m on LinkedIn, a fantastic platform for business networking, marketing, lead generation and more. I accept that email is the preferred medium of business communication and recognize the value of keeping up two blogs. I also publish a monthly e-newsletter.
While these tools are great, they can also be overwhelming and distracting. They increase, but I don’t. There’s still just one me. There are still only 24 hours in a day. I may need more extreme measures in the time-management department. For example, perhaps no email, Twitter and LinkedIn before noon. Get those one or two writing projects completed first.
Here’s what I tell myself: Think of all the time that people on the cubicle farm waste in meetings. (I know, I know. It’s not all wasted time.) Flying solo, I don’t waste any time in meetings.
But, if I’m not careful, I can lose bunches of time online. Do you have any social media time-management strategies? What works for you?
