A while back I wrote about the importance of an “elevator statement,” a concise, clear description of a company, product, or service that can be said in the time it takes to travel a couple of floors.
Later I was reminded of elevators at an open house at Chateau Morrisette Winery, where I congratulated vice president Bob Burgin on their new elevator.
With the addition of the winery’s elevator, we determined there were at least two elevators in the county (grain elevators excluded). The other elevator is at the Bank of Floyd. I have ridden the winery elevator twice, but I have never been in the bank elevator which, as far as I know, is for employees only.
Obviously, there’s not much need for an “elevator statement” in Floyd. So, for around here, I’ll call it a “sidewalk statement.” And it’s not necessary to say it quite as quickly in Floyd.
